A Lotterywest grant of more than $1.5 million has been given to the Murdoch University's Keep the Carnaby's Flying program. This is a much-needed boost being given to West Australia's iconic Carnaby's cockatoos.
A committed team of employees and volunteers work on the Keep the Carnaby's Flying programme to improve and safeguard the habitat of the birds in the Perth and Peel districts.
With the support of Lotterywest funding, a network of local governments, community organisations, and nonprofit organisations will revitalise and replant habitats that Carnaby's cockatoos use for feeding, breeding, and access to water.
It is heartening to see all the important work being done to give this special native species a fighting chance.
