COMMUNITY UPDATE
I have written to Minister Rita Saffioti and Minister David Michael to highlight that the Riseley Street warden crossing is not listed scheduled for the first stage of major upgrades.
In my letter I outlined the concerns that I shared with the student councillors that the road is dangerous because of the:
- large volumes of traffic across the four lanes;
- dangerous geographical features, including the road being curved and downhill; and
- many vehicles travelling at much higher speeds than the posted limit.
I believe that these features have created a very unsafe environment for the many children that cross and I believe immediate change is necessary.
Due to these reasons I urged the Ministers to include the two Riseley Street crossings as a priority site in order to see these upgrades occur in 2024.

COMMUNITY UPDATE - STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES EXPRESS CONCERNS
In May 2024 the Student Representatives of Applecross Senior High School wrote to me to express their concerns about the risks posed by the traffic conditions on Riseley Street.
I outlined that the program is set to be rolled out over four years which included Riseley Street, however I noted that Riseley Street was not identified as a priority in the rollout of the program.
In light of these concerns, I wrote to the ministers for Road Safety and Transport to request that Riseley Street be included in the priority round of the program's implementation.
It is fantastic to see the advocacy of our young leaders who are working hard to make their school a safer environment.

APRIL 2024
The State Government recently announced that it will be investing $10 million to expand the 40km/h speed zones to all warden-controlled crossings that fall outside of the 40km/h school zone limit areas.
These improvements were scheduled to occur at targeted sites over the coming years, with Applecross Senior High School and Ardross Primary School to benefit in the later stages of the upgrades.
You can see my comments about these upgrades here!
