Fantastic news for local seniors – we’ve delivered on our election commitment to reinstate the Seniors Security Rebate.

I know that security and safety equipment can be costly, so I’m pleased this rebate will allow more local seniors to purchase the equipment they need to stay safe and feel secure in their homes.

The $12 million rebate program allows WA Seniors Card members to claim a reimbursement of up to $400 per household following the purchase of eligible home security, fire safety or electrical safety items.

Thousands of Western Australian seniors are safer in their own homes, thanks to the delivery of a McGowan Government election commitment.

The Seniors Safety and Security Rebate recently reached a major milestone, with more than $6 million in payments handed out to older Western Australians.

Under the scheme, Western Australian Seniors Card members can claim up to $400 towards the purchase, or installation costs, of eligible home security, fire safety and electrical safety items.

Claims have been processed for WA Seniors Card members on over 28,000 items so far, including:

9,510 security doors screens;
6,499 security windows screens or shutters;
4,202 security alarms or CCTV systems;
2,377 mains-powered smoke alarms;
1,778 security sensor lights;
1,119 residual current devices;
1,109 WiFi video doorbells;
580 door and window deadlocks;
603 fire extinguishers; and
378 fire blankets

To meet the requirements of the Safety and Security Rebate, items purchased must meet the relevant Australian Standards, and any installation work required must be carried out by a licensed tradesperson.

A licence search for electrical work can be conducted by visiting https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/building-and-energy/find-gas-fitter-electrician-or-plumber

For security items, a list of approved security installers are listed on the WA Police website at https://www.police.wa.gov.au/About-Us/Our-Agency/Police-Licensing-Services/Security/Current-licence-holders

The rebate is administered by the Department of Communities' WA Seniors Card Centre.

WA Seniors Card members can apply via their online WA Seniors Card account available at http://www.seniorscard.wa.gov.au. Application forms can also be downloaded from the WA Seniors Card website.

Enquiries about the rebate can be made to the WA Seniors Card Centre on 1800 671 233, or email to [email protected]
