Because every drop counts for our black cockatoos!

I’m thrilled to announce a $43,000 commitment to install 5 new ‘Cockitrough’ watering stations, helping support our endangered black cockatoos.

By ensuring these iconic birds have access to safe drinking water, we’re taking another step towards protecting Western Australia’s unique wildlife for generations to come.

The 5 locations are Shirley Strickland Reserve- Ardross, Ken Douglas Reserve- Mount Pleasant, Winthrop Park- Winthrop, Piney Lakes Reserve - Winthrop, and Laurie Withers Reserve, Kardinya

These locations have been selected from the City of Melville’s Black Cockatoo Conservation Action Plan, which was developed in partnership with the Keep Carnaby’s Flying - Ngoolarks Forever project, Murdoch University.  Funding for this project was provided by a $1.5 million Lotterywest grant

I was also thrilled to support the Keep Carnabys Flying- Ngoolarks Forever project, in partnership with some of my parliamentary colleagues, to fund the development and production of resources for school.

Other ways in which Roger Cook and I are committed to doing what’s right for our local environment, including our beautiful Carnabys, include;

  • $120,000 for community’s first ever Miyawaki ‘Pocket forest’ at Ces Deceau Reserve, Brentwood
  • $35,000 for Wirambi Landcare to support conservation work including the Banksia Woodland area around Blue Gum Lake, and for community planting days

$16.9 million ‘Treebates’ for households to plant native and help double Perth’s urban tree canopy by 2040
