A re-elected Cook Labor Government will deliver $120,000 to establish a Miyawaki “pocket forest” and activate public open space at Ces Deceau Reserve in Brentwood.
Currently an underutilised grass block with no trees, environmental features, or public space activation, this project will continue the ongoing enhancement of parks and reserves in Bateman
This funding, to be delivered in partnership with Carbon Positive Australia and the City of Melville, will transform the reserve into a vibrant pocket forest, creating a green space for the local community to enjoy while contributing to environmental sustainability.
This will also be the first-ever Miyawaki community pocket forest delivered on a local government-managed site, setting a groundbreaking example for other local governments in the Perth region to follow.
This announcement follows on Bateman MLA Kim Giddens’ efforts in driving a successful community campaign to rezone 13 State-owned parks to public open space. Ces Deceau Reserve is one of these parks, and this commitment will ensure it is revitalised into a thriving community hub and environmental asset.
Comments attributed to Bateman MLA Kim Giddens:
“Our parks and public spaces are essential to building strong, connected communities, and I’m thrilled to announce this WA Labor investment in Ces Deceau Reserve.
“This initiative is another step forward in my commitment to protecting and enhancing our local parks and environment, ensuring Bateman remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
“This $120,000 commitment, to be delivered by a re-elected Cook Labor Government, will transform an underutilised grass block into a beautiful community pocket forest, providing a place for residents to connect with nature and each other.
“Rezoning 13 State-owned parks to public open space was a proud moment for me as the Member for Bateman, and this project shows how we are delivering on our vision for these spaces.”
