Every Western Australian has a right to feel safe in their own home.
That's why a re-elected Cook Labor Government will deliver a $14.5 million package to crack down on violent young offenders.
These common-sense reforms will provide swifter outcomes for the victims and families of youth crime.
Under WA Labor, new laws will be delivered to ensure;
- Young repeat violent offenders have their trial within 28 days
- Decisions to grant violent young offenders bail will have the ability to be reviewed immediately
- Violent young offenders on bail will be tracked with $1 million being invested to support of new tracking technology
- Responsible adults will be penalised for failing to report breaches of bail curfew conditions
To support these reforms, $13.5 million will be invested for a satellite Children’s Court to be commissioned in the old Armadale Court with an additional magistrate appointed to meet the 28-day timeframe.
- This will not only support swifter outcomes for victims but is also in the best interest of
the child. - The Satellite Court will also have a dedicated therapeutic court sitting 5 days a week to
support the diversion of young offenders who engage with behavioural change programs. - This will support to rehabilitate and break the cycle of offending for young offenders.
Community safety will always be a priority for Roger Cook and WA Labor.
